Pooja Melwyn Dsouza, Vice President of Sales and Operations Spectrum Networks Solutions Pvt Ltd, is a dynamic personality who has carved a path for her in the IT sales sector. Pooja has been with Spectrum Networks Solutions Pvt. Ltd. for 8 years now. She began her career as a business development manager, with her efforts and hard work she has reached the position of Vice President Sales and Operations.

When asked about her mantra for achieving this phenomenal success at such a short span of time,  she says, “One has to definitely put a lot of effort and energy to achieve their goals, but the most important thing that makes an individual pull the threshold and move an extra mile is nothing but the need. Need and the thirst to achieve something in life.” She added that it is extremely essential that one remains attached to the different emotions in their life, be it the drive to achieve success professionally or the different relations in a persons’ life. If you do not take ownership of these relations, the outcome will not be satisfactory on a personal level. One more tip she added on was that in the ever pacing scenario today, it is absolutely essential to grasp knowledge from everywhere and learn methods for their execution in daily life.

One of the biggest challenges she believes women are still facing is the backward mentality and society norms of how a woman should be. But on a positive note she adds that the scenario has been changing off late and also the woman will have to step up to own their success.

Certainly being in the top position that she is, her work takes up most of her time, but she manages to hold a bifurcation between her personal and professional life. “As a woman we are blessed with the quality of time management, multitasking and the most important ingredient – patience. Patience can build bridges you never knew could exist. You need to instil in others the confidence that you have the potential to achieve your goals. So, respect your family’s opinions and make sure you explain your point of view calmly and clearly.” When we miss out on experiences in personal life, and concentrate only on work, there is a fear of burning out. That is the reason, there is absolute necessity of having a work life balance at all times.

When the discussion moved on to the topic of age limit being a bar for women to achieve success, she stated, “Absolutely not, there is no age limit for woman to achieve success because as a woman they have the right to put forward their passion at any age. No matter what the age, always listen to your inner voice, it knows you the best. My needs are what have driven me to the position I am in now. When I look at inspirational women like Chanda Kocher, Mary Kom, Ritu Kumar and many more, I am re-affirmed in my belief that there is no age limit to define success. Keep your close ones with you and build a support system that will drive you through tough times.”

On being asked for a piece of advice for the millions of young women entering the industry, she states as a matter of fact, “Women should never stop learning. It is a continuous process and nourishes you every day.” She went on to add, “If we look at the data on female entrepreneurship, firms owned by women has doubled over the past years. So that in itself is the evidence of the fire and potential that we as a woman have. It’s all about how we position our thought process and how we put across our passion in our life. Also, it is essential that one pays attention to health, eat at the right time and dedicate time for workout.”

To the millions of women out there restricting themselves from achieving their dreams, go that extra mile and listen to your inner voice. There is a calling you need to heed, you may never know, success might just be around the corner.
